Research Interests

Most of my research is in differential geometry. I started out working on quaternionic geometries, and am still very much interested in this area, particularly the links with moment maps, Einstein metrics, supersymmetry, torsion geometry, duality and other physics-inspired ideas. I particularly enjoy being able to apply techniques from the theory of Lie groups to these fields.
I studied at Oriel College, Oxford University, from 1983 to 1990 obtaining BA, MA and D.Phil. degrees in Mathematics (thesis and dissertations), the latter supervised by Simon Salamon. The last two years in Oxford I held college lectureships at Oriel College and then Lady Margaret Hall. Thereafter I spent two years as a postdoc in Odense and one year at the Max-Planck-Institut für Mathematik in Bonn. Until 1995 I was adjunkt (Assistant Professor) in Odense and then I moved to the University of Bath to take up a lectureship in Pure Mathematics. I returned to Odense, now the University of Southern Denmark, in 1999 as lektor (Associate Professor). In 2011, I moved to Aarhus University as lektor (Associate Professor) in the geometry/topology group. From 2020, I am Professor of Mathematics in the Department of Mathematics at Aarhus University.
I am an editor of Differential Geometry and its Applications. I served on the board of the Danish Mathematical Society from 2000 to 2008, was an editorial adviser (2008-2017) for the Bulletin, Journal, Proceedings of the London Mathematical Society and also for the Transactions of the London Mathematical Society (2013-2017) and was the Coordinating Editor for Mathematica Scandinavica (2016-2021).
I am a member of the research centre Centre for Digitalisation, Big Data and Data Analytics (AU-Digit) at Aarhus.
